This privately owned boutique 19th century Chateau nestles peacefully in the French rural countryside., with quaint villages nearby and Paris only a short drive or train ride away. Trois Brioux is the perfect holiday destination and escape to peacefulness in the tranquil countryside. The Chateau is centrally located in the heart of France just 2 hours south of Paris between La Charite Sur Loire and Bourges in the beautiful Loire valley.
The 8 bedroom Chateau lies in 32 acres of parkland. This 1895 building is a classic French Petit Chateau with an interesting history.
The Chateau was purchased by the village of Vierzon in 1931 from the original owner Squadron commander Georges Marie Ludovic Antoine BAR La GARDE Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur, Capitaine de cavalerie (Captain of the Horse).
The town of Vierzon, despite the risk of Spanish reprisals, offered the Chateau to help house the refugees in a compassionate and humanitarian gesture. Between 1937 and 1939 there were over 100 Catalan women and children, housed at the Chateau.
During the 2nd World War elements of the reconnaissance regiment of the 9th German tank division fought in the vicinity and the Chateau remained in the occupied section of France until the area was liberated by the French resistance movement in late 1944. Post war the Chateau was again used as a vacation centre for the youth of Vierzon prior to being transferred back to private use in 1996.
Since 2016 it has been extensively renovated and all facilities upgraded.
